1. The canonical norms concerning the procedure to be followed in the Causes of Saints are stated in the Apostolic Constitution Divinus Perfectionis Magister promulgated by John Paul II on 25 January 1983 (AAS LXXV, 1983, 349-355).
2. To initiate a Cause it is necessary that at least five years pass after the death of the candidate. Franciszek was born in Warsaw on 3 December 1917. In 1935, he got his Diploma in Grammar School classics and he began to study and work in his father’s tailor shop. On 13 March 1944 he entered the Noviciate of the Discalced Carmelites in Czerna.
His parents and siblings were surprised at his decision to enter the Order as he had never shown any signs of such an inclination before this. However, as they were familiar with his high ideals and his determination to achieve any goals he set himself, they did appreciate this latest decision. His father, being aware of his talents as a tailor, joked that he would now be able to patch and mend the friars’ habits in the monastery. Jerzy reminded his father of this in a letter from Czerna later on. During his noviciate he offered himself as a sacrifice for his family living in Warsaw, that God would allow them to survive the war. On 24 August 1944, he himself was shot dead by the Nazis in the forest of Siedice, a few kilometres from Czerna.
The process for his Beatification, together with other martyrs, was opened on 17 September 2003.
